Background
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genomes persist in the proliferating cell nuclei as double-stranded circular DNA plasmids. The replication and segregation of EBV DNA requires a single viral protein, Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA1), in addition to cellular factors (1). The ability of EBNA1 to support long-term EBV DNA replication and episome maintenance in cells depends on its interaction with EBNA1-binding protein 2 (EBNA1BP2) (2). EBV infection has been closely linked to the development of various cancer types. EBNA1BP2 has been investigated as a prognostic biomarker for multiple tumor types in pan-cancer analysis (3).
